Laminar flow. Aerospace precision. A new and innovative collaboration between FCS and Matt Parker.
Overview
Surfers have ridden the same twin fin profiles for decades. A flat inside face, or an asymmetrical 80/20 foil, and for a long time, that was enough.
Today, that changes.
We decided to go beyond convention. To invest in genuine research. To ask not just “what works,” but why it works, and whether something could work better. This research led us to the hydrodynamics of laminar flow. Simply put: most fin foils disturb the water right away, creating turbulence and drag. A laminar profile is designed to do the opposite: it keeps the water flowing smoothly and attached to the fin’s surface for as long as possible. Less disturbance. More drive. More control.
This new profile goes further thanks to its camber. A subtle, deliberate curve built into the foil itself, starting at the fin’s leading edge. While a flat or symmetrical foil waits for the surfer to load it, a cambered foil is already working. It actively generates lateral force through the turn, building hold from the moment you load the rail, even at low speeds. Think of it less as a rudder, and more as a wing that’s always “on.”
This camber peaks at 40% of the chord, forward of center, loading the front of the foil sooner. The result is a fin that builds pressure from the start of the turn and holds it all the way through, instead of peaking and then releasing suddenly. This geometry isn’t an approximation: it’s inspired by aerospace and hydrodynamic science, and built with the same precision.
The laminar profile delays flow separation. This translates into clean, continuous drive through bottom turns and hold you can feel throughout the turn, not just on entry. And when the fin releases, it does so on your terms, without losing speed.
This twin fin set was developed in close collaboration with Matt Parker and his team at Album Surfboards. Matt’s understanding of how a twin fin should turn and project, and of the balance between release and drive, looseness and connection, guided every decision in translating this design into a twin fin set that delivers speed, balanced pivot, and balanced projection. A set that rewards rail surfing as much as speed. A set that feels made for the wave.
Board Types
- Designed for the FCS II system.
- Recommended for all board types, including fish, funboards, and twin fins.
Fin Family
Carver: Find the Power. Powerful, drawn-out turns with increased hold.
Performance Glass
Performance Glass (PG) fins are machine-cut from solid fiberglass sheets. They are stiff fins, widely used by professional surfers because their flex integrity is maintained even under intense forces and in the most extreme conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is laminar flow and why does it matter?
It’s a hydrodynamic profile that keeps water attached to the fin’s surface for longer, reducing turbulence and providing more drive and control through turns.
Who developed this fin set?
It was developed in close collaboration with Matt Parker and his team at Album Surfboards.
