Neil Pryde Apex HD 2026

NeilPryde Apex HD: The HD wave sail for ultimate jumping and control.

The new NeilPryde Apex HD is a new generation wave sail designed for those looking for absolute control in jumps, a wide wind range and a lightweight feel even in the most extreme conditions. It was born as a heavy duty power wave, but remains surprisingly light in the hand and super maneuverable, becoming the choice of team riders in strong winds and rough seas.

What is the NeilPryde Apex HD and who is it for?

The NeilPryde Apex HD is a 4 or 5 batten wave sail that complements the historic Combat, placing the emphasis on explosive jumping, control when fully or over-powered and use in a very wide wind range. It is designed for windsurfers who want a powerful, stable and controllable sail without sacrificing lightness and agility when surfing.

The Apex HD combines the DNA of the award-winning Combat with more low-end drive and extremely neutral balance, resulting in a true wave sail with a smooth, silky feel that helps you push harder on jumps and turns even in gusty or challenging conditions. It is no coincidence that it is the sail chosen by riders like Marino for the most extreme jumps and by Robby and Morgan for the windiest days on the Maui spot.

HD construction: maximum strength with low weight

The Apex HD version adopts Power HD technology in the clew and foot area, with Ultra PE filaments oriented along the main load lines to offer immediate response, great durability and very precise control. The use of HD laminate panels and Ultra PE fibres in the leech and top of the sail ensures a heavy duty setup, ideal for those who abuse their rig in rocky spots or challenging shorebreaks.

The Apex HD uses an X-Ply window panel, which is more impact resistant than a traditional monofilm yet lightweight, improving safety and durability. The channel area uses a Taffeta X-Ply ripstop laminate that adds strength and stability to the profile, while the Ultra-PE Triax top panels help keep weight and deformation down.

Performance: power, control and wide range of use

The Apex is designed to deliver the ultimate combination of drive, acceleration and control. Compared to the Combat, the Apex HD pushes more at low revs, making it easier to exit the shorebreak, launch from jumps and get into early planing even when the wind is at its limit.

The profile has been optimised with a new leech curve and 3D modelling of the mast pocket and panels, resulting in a very stable sail that is never “stiff” in the hands. Pumping is simple and effective, the maximum speed is high and stability remains comfortable even in very strong wind conditions.

A key aspect is the increased width and height compared to the Combat, combined with a narrower head and a higher aspect ratio: this allows for quicker planing starts, more thrust in acceleration and at the same time greater control in the upper part of the range.

4 and 5 slats: optimized setup for each size

To best cover the entire wind and style range, the NeilPryde Apex HD uses a 4-batten layout in the small sizes from 3.6 to 5.1 m² and a 5-batten layout in the large sizes from 5.5 to 6.3 m². This way each size offers the best possible compromise between stability and weight, with a very direct and balanced feel on the boom.

Thanks to the wide wind range that each size can handle, NeilPryde has been able to increase the steps between one size and the next, allowing you to cover more conditions with fewer sails. This is a real advantage in terms of transport, space occupied and budget, especially if you travel frequently or want to slim down your quiver.

Apex HD, Combat, and Atlas: What's Really Different?

Within the NeilPryde wave range, the Combat remains the most versatile sail, designed to cover practically all conditions with a wide tuning range. It is the choice of many World Cup riders for a very wide spectrum of use, from side-on to side-off, with a focus on control, radical maneuverability and responsiveness.

The NeilPryde Apex HD is positioned as a complementary wing, more oriented towards extreme jumping, low-end power and “highway” control even when fully powered. Compared to the previous Atlas, the Apex is much more agile and user-friendly: thanks to the new outline and the 4-batten layout from 5.1 onwards, the feeling is closer to a “doped” Combat, with immediate power but plenty of maneuverability when surfing.

Available sizes and colors

The NeilPryde Apex HD is available in sizes 3.6, 3.9, 4.3, 4.7, 5.1, 5.5, 5.9 and 6.3 m², covering all typical wave conditions, from extremely windy days to windy bump and jump sessions. Two main color combinations are planned, with variants that mix purple, pink and orange for a highly visible look in the water and recognizable in photos and videos.

Why choose the NeilPryde Apex HD

  • Power wave heavy duty, but with low weight and high maneuverability.
  • Superior drive and acceleration to get out of the shorebreak quickly and jump higher.
  • Total control even in overpowered conditions, with stability and comfort in gusts.
  • 4/5 batten layout optimised for each size, with a very wide wind range.
  • HD construction with X-Ply and Ultra PE for maximum resistance in the most demanding spots.
