Dockstarting is a foiling discipline that involves starting from a dock, pier, or floating platform, pushing off with your feet to generate speed and launch the foil. Once airborne, you maintain altitude by pumping (a pumping motion with your legs and body).
The SK8 is the perfect board for this discipline: ultra compact, light and reactive, it allows you to do tricks, quick changes of direction and prolonged pumping sessions even in small spaces.

What level is required to use the SK8?
The SK8 is a board for riders who are already experienced foilers. You need to be able to fly steadily, pump to maintain altitude, and have excellent foil control. It's not suitable for beginners: before moving on to dockstarting, you need to master foiling with a wing, kite, or windsurf.
Can I use it for normal wing foiling?
No, the SK8 is too small (16 liters) for traditional wing foil use. It's designed exclusively for dockstarting and foil pumping, where you don't need extra buoyancy because you're already starting from a raised position.
Where can I practice dockstart?
Anywhere there's a body of water with a dock, pier, or floating platform: marinas, urban canals, lakes with docks, swimming pools, and reservoirs. It's the perfect discipline for those who live far from the sea or have little wind.
Do you need a special foil?
For dockstarting, we recommend foils with 1200-1800 cm² (medium/large) front wings for good lift at low speed and easier pumping. The mast should be between 75-95 cm, depending on the level and spot. Any foil with a US Box attachment is compatible.
Are straps included?
No, straps aren't included, but the board already has the inserts to mount them. Straps are highly recommended for dockstarting for maximum control during tricks and pumping.
How durable is it?
The PVC Sandwich Glass construction is very robust and designed to withstand constant impacts with docks, structures, and platforms. However, it's recommended to protect the edges with special neoprene protectors if you practice on particularly hard surfaces.
Is it easy to transport?
Yes, weighing just 2.7 kg and 95 cm long, it's extremely easy to carry. It fits in your car, travel bag, or even on your bike or motorcycle. It's the most portable foil board on the market.
Can I also use it for pump foiling while stationary in the water?
Yes, if you're an advanced pumper, you can also use it for standing starts in the water (pump foiling), although it's more difficult than dock starting. Its small size makes it very technical for this use.
What is the difference with a normal board wing?
A standard wingboard has a volume of 70-125 liters and is used for floating, foiling, and surfing. The SK8 has only 16 liters, doesn't float under the rider, and is used exclusively for dockstarting/pumping, where you launch from a high point at speed. They are two completely different products for different disciplines.
